Qhuchan carpets: this type of carpet is knotted in the area of Persian Azerbaijan, by Kurds, an Iranian tribe which is believed to have inhabited the area since before the age of Christ and today number an estimated 10 to 13 million people. The Kurdish lifestyle varies from the nomadic mountain shepherd, to the village farmer who yields small crops of wheat and barley. It is obvious that their lifestyle is depicted to their carpets with designs of nomadic simple style to geometrical patterns. They are entirely made of wool and they are usually durable thick carpets.To a remarkable extent, Kurdish carpet-makers have always readily adapted the antique carpet patterns of the neighboring weaving traditions into their own carpets.
